Many studies have been made with interferons in cats and dogs in field conditions,
but only published data are reported in this section. We would like to thank the authors of these reports for their contribution.

3 Clinical case of juvenile papillomatosis in a female dog.

The animal was given feline omega interferon SC once a day for 5 consecutive days, repeated 3 times on D0, D14 and D60. He was rehydrated using Ringer's lactate, supplemented with KCI for 3 days. Two years from the start of this treatment, the cat is in good general health, has gained weight, and its physical activity is normal. To date, there has been no other further episode of clinical illness.

General bodily condition of this animal, with a poor prognosis initially, improved 24 hours after the administration of the feline omega interferon. It went back home after a 3-day hospitalisation. This interferon not only reduces the risk of mortality on a significant way, but also allows a faster recovery of the animal.
 
8 Use of recombinant feline interferon (rFeIFN) in the treatment of cat 'flu

This case study in a large multi-animal household shows that giving rFeIFN helps reducing the clinical signs of disease in both acute and chronic cases and, possibly, prevent acute cases from becoming chronic. In that case, the feline interferon was administered either per os daily for one month, or SC followed by per os daily for 17 days. The animals were also given doxycycline daily, either for one month, or for 14 days.

74 puppies (2 groups) received a feline omega interferon as a prophylactic use in order to reduce viral diseases in pet shops before puppies are sold. The results were positive and were presented in this Japanese congress.

One dog with a severe hemorrhagic bladder tumor underwent a cystectomy and received a treatment with a feline omega interferon after a relapse. rFeIFN was administered both systematically (SC route) and locally (intracystic). The results were very good.
